Geographic Information Systems

The spatial representation and analysis of social data and information is often undertaken by EBC using either ARCVIEW or MAPINFO software. In addition to the analysis and presentation of census and other secondary data, EBC have developed specialised methods and techniques whereby the findings from social surveys are able to be displayed and analysed spatially. This not only requires the use of specific survey sampling methods, but also specific analyses associated with the use of point data which is derived from the use of survey methods. For example, spatial analysis of this data is able to identify areas of impact from new development proposals, produce noise (as opposed to sound) contours and show the spatial variation in community attitudes and beliefs.
